BOOK REVIEW: City Of Bones

Years ago, I used to choose what books are suitable for my daughter to read. Now, its the other way around. She's been bugging me for ages to read --- City of Bones even before the movie. I think she read all four books and is waiting for the last installment. Then she and her ninang scheduled a movie date for City of Bones but it didn't push thru since the Metropolis was flooded with moonsoon rains and her ninang lives in Cavite. Luckily, one of her BFFs lives nearby so they scheduled a movie date- chaperoned by her friend's mom and achie.

At last, I have found the time to read the book and I can say I'm hooked. I'm now reading the second installment. But will talk about the City of Bones first.

The heroine in the book is Clary. She is a shadowhunter (if you want to know more about what is a shadowhunter, you have to read the book) and a normal teenager. However, things changed when her mother was abducted (no, not by aliens) and she discovered that vampires, warewolves, faeries, warlocks, etc exists in her part of the world. What I find nice about this is the transition  of an adolescent to being a young adult. Of course, not everyone have drastic experiences like Clary but it teaches the readers to just go with the flow and not to resist what life has to offer because doing so may result in unexpected suffering. On the other hand, suffering is also good because there's a realization afterwards that "you can overcome the challenges that comes your way." Meanwhile, there's also Jace, Isabelle, Alec and Simon. The first three are shadowhunters while Simon is a Mundane or human like us. I also like how the author portrayed good vs evil, and the unexpected twist in the story.
