VISITA IGLESIA: San Miguel Church

The National Shrine of Saint Michael and The Archangels or commonly known as San Miguel Church sits inside the vicinity of Malacanang. It is sometimes thus referred to as Malacanang Church.

Saint Michael or Archangel Michael was the one who defeated the fallen angels and sent them back to hell. He is also known as the guardian of the church.

Built in 1913, San Miguel Church has overcome a lot of changes Since its first construction in 1603 by the Jesuits. From then on, it has undergone a lot of changes and was even managed by the Franciscans for some time. The church is officially called- the National Shrine of Saint Michael and the Archangels which was bestowed on the church in 1986.

The church is still undergoing renovations when I visited a couple of weeks ago. Mass is held at the church auditorium which is just beside the church but one can still go inside to pray.

Here is Saint Michael.

San Miguel Church holds a special place in my heart since this is where I was baptized and had my confirmations years ago.

Here's the lovely courtyard. That small door used to be an adoration chapel. It is unused now and is gathering dust. I wish that they will include that in the renovation.
