Family Fun Day for Homeschool Global

Homeschooling is getting to be quite popular in the Philippines as compared to decades ago. Parents nowadays are much more keen to embrace the idea that homeschooling is just as educational as sending their kids to traditional school. Of course, homeschooling also has more perks and much more relaxing for the child.

Just recently Homeschool Global (HG), a Christian learning organization held its annual Family Fun Day at the Don Jones Field of the British School Manila in Taguig City. It was a whole day event wherein hundreds of homeschoolers got to mingle and have fun with each other in the Family Fun Day’s aptly theme- “Let’s Come Together!”

The whole day Family Fun Day event highlighted the unity and camaraderie amongst its students and parents. The event has also become an opportunity for the students to socialize, and for the parents to exchange tips and practices for their homeschooling kids.

According to a research report conducted by Dr. Brian D. Ray, Ph.D., studies using research measures include peer interaction, self-concept, leadership skills, family cohesion, participation in community service, and self-esteem show that the home-educated are doing well, typically above average, on measures of social, emotional, and psychological development.

Aside from the games, workshops, bazaar during the event, it also celebrated the achievements of several homeschoolers who have discovered and nurtured their own unique talents and at the same time, excelling in their lessons.

Here are some of the achievers:

Louise Mabulo has been a finalist in the Junior Master Chef competition of ABS.CBN and was also selected as the Delegation Head and Campus Ambassador at the United Nations Youth Assembly. Being homeschooled as opened doors of opportunities for Louise and it also helped her discover her other talents.

Harmie Constantino is an accomplished junior golfer and has won three straight victories in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and placed 4th in 2016 and 10th in 2017 in the World Junior Championship. She started joining golf tournaments since she was a child and usually compete in other countries almost every month. Her golf schedule would have gotten in the way had she been enrolled in a traditional school and her grades might be affected.

Cheska Rojas love performing on stage and has played the role of Molly in Annie, the Musical, as well as the recently concluded Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre. Homeschooling has allowed Cheska to follow her passion for singing and acting. At her young age, she is serious about pursuing her career in theatre.

Arianna Natasha Chua is a math wizard and has bagged medals at the China Junior Math Olympiad in 2011; International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Singapore in 2013; and placed 5th overall at the International Regions Mathematics League in Nevada in 2016. She is also the recipient of the Youth Excellence in Science Award (YES Award) in 2011 and 2013. Arianna love being homeschooled because for her, studying at her own pace is not as stressful as when she attended traditional school. For her, she was able to enjoy and do more activities when she was being homeschooled. And contrary to the myth that homeschoolers are not sociable, it is the exact opposite for her. She was able to discover herself and hone her interpersonal skills.

Homeschool Global provides services that can help parents customize their children’s education according to their learning styles and abilities. It guides and trains parents in homeschooling because it believes that intentional parenting is the key to better learning.
